چکیده مقاله:

Abstract Background and Objectives HIV virus and its subsequent disease is one of the most important challenges of the world health system. Although antiretroviral therapy (ART) is a breakthrough in patients’ life quality, it has complications like side effects. The side effect causes are diverse. One of the factors considered about side effects is genes polymorphism. This study investigates the relationship between rs2712816 and rs949096 polymorphisms on SLCO2B1 gene which is one of the most important antiretroviral drugs transporters. Materials and Methods In this Cross-sectional study, the two variants, rs2712816 and rs949096 were genotyped on 161 samples of HIV-1 infected patients. Consequently, the records of patients in Imam Khomeini Behavioral Diseases Center were reviewed and necessary data were collected. Statistical analysis was done by chi-square, exact Fisher test, and Mann Whitney U test using SPSS 26.0. Results The results show that there is a significant relationship between AA genotype in rs949069 polymorphism and dizziness and urticaria in patients (p< 0.05). The rs2712816 polymorphism and side effects did not show any significant relationship. Conclusions  There are different factors involved in antiretroviral therapy side effects. According to the results of this study, the rs949069 is one of the factors.

Effects of PPARγ and RBP4 Gene Variants on Metabolic Syndrome in HIV-Infected Patients with Anti-Retroviral Therapy

BACKGROUND PPARγ and RBP4 are known to regulate lipid and glucose metabolism and insulin resistance. The influences of PPARγ (C1431T and Pro12Ala) and RBP4 (-803GA) polymorphisms on metabolic syndrome in HIV-infected patients receiving anti-retroviral therapy were examined in this study. MATERIALS AND METHODS A cross-sectional study of HIV-1 infected adults with antiretroviral therapy for mor...

Study of Anti-Retroviral Effects of Salix Aegyptiaca L Herbal Extract on HIV-1 in-vitro

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is the major problem in the world. Nowadays, new anti-retroviral drugs are extracted from medicinal plants, make an important role to supersede synthetic drugs with different side effects. In this study, we studied the Salix aegyptiaca L extract, Iranian herb, as an anti-HIV drug with anti-retroviral effects. We used a single cycle replicable (SCR) H...

Anti-retroviral therapy reduces incident tuberculosis in HIV-infected children.

BACKGROUND We aimed to estimate the effect of anti-retroviral therapy (ART) on incident tuberculosis (TB) in a cohort of HIV-infected children. METHODS We analysed data from ART-naïve, TB disease-free children enrolled between December 2004 and April 2008 into an HIV care program in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. To estimate the effect of ART on TB incidence while accounting for time...

Dyslipidaemia and dysglycaemia in HIV-infected patients on highly active anti-retroviral therapy in Kumasi Metropolis.

BACKGROUND Diet and genetic predisposition significantly affect lipid metabolism in the individual. This metabolic effect is further challenged in patients infected with HIV and on HAART. The prolonged use of HAART is associated with lipodystrophy, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance. OBJECTIVE To determine the prevalence of lipid dysregulation and dysglycaemia in HIV infected patients on HA...

Dolutegravir-based anti-retroviral therapy is effective and safe in HIV–infected paediatric patients

BACKGROUND Treatment of HIV infection in adolescents is challenging due to long duration of therapy and poor adherence. Recently, the integrase strand transfer inhibitor dolutegravir (DTG) has been approved for the use in adolescents with HIV, but evidence in clinical practice is very limited. METHODS We describe six cases of HIV-infected children/adolescents successfully treated with DTG-bas...

Worsening and unmasking of tuberculosis in HIV-1 infected patients after initiating highly active anti-retroviral therapy in Uganda.

OBJECTIVES To determine the proportion of patients developing active tuberculosis (TB) versus that of patients who experience worsening of TB, after initiating highly active anti retroviral therapy (HAART). METHODS Charts of HAART naïve patients with or without clinically active TB who consecutively commenced HAART at Mulago Hospital Infectious Diseases Institute were reviewed. Patients were ...
